Retailgrid Price Check (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension published by Retailgrid Oy (“Retailgrid,” “we,” “us”). Retailgrid Oy is the controller of the personal data described here. This policy covers the extension only. Our main privacy policy covers the Retailgrid platform and website.
1. What the extension reads
When you click the extension icon, it reads the product page in your current browser tab. It looks for:
- Product name and brand
- Price, sale price and currency
- Barcode (GTIN), SKU and stock status
- The store name and the page address
It reads a page only after you click the icon, and only the tab you are on. It does not run in the background, read your browsing history or access other tabs.
2. What stays in your browser
When you click “Add to price list,” the product details above and the time you added them are saved in your browser's local extension storage. This list stays on your device. It is not sent to us and not synced to your Google account.
You can remove single items or clear the whole list in the extension at any time. Uninstalling the extension deletes the list.
3. Signing in
Competitor prices need a free account. When you choose “Sign in with Google,” Google tells us your email address and, if available, your first and last name. We use them to count your free lookups and to identify you if you contact us. We do not receive your Google password and do not access your Gmail, Drive or any other Google data.
You can use the price list and CSV export without signing in.
4. What is sent when you look up competitor prices
Only when you click “Show competitor prices,” the extension sends to our server:
- The product details listed in section 1, including the page address and price
- Your Google sign-in token, which we check with Google to confirm your email
Our server searches public Google Shopping listings for the same product and returns matching store prices. The search sends the product name or barcode to our search provider. It does not include your email.
5. What we store and for how long
- Your account: your email, name, the time you first signed in, and the product pages you looked up (name, store, page address, price and date). We use this to count your free lookups. We keep it while you use the extension and delete it when you ask us to.
- Lookup results: competitor prices for a product page are cached for 24 hours, so repeat lookups are fast and free.
- Price history: we keep a daily record of the store prices found for each product, for about 13 months, to show price history. These records contain store names and prices only. They do not contain your email or any other personal data.
- Sign-in tokens: kept for up to 10 minutes to avoid checking with Google on every request.
6. How we use your data
- To provide competitor prices and count your free lookups (performance of the service you asked for).
- To follow up about Retailgrid. We add your email and name to our customer database (HubSpot). When you have used your free lookups, we record which products you checked, so we can prepare if you book a call. This is based on our legitimate interest in offering Retailgrid to people who use the extension. You can object at any time, and we will stop.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse, for example limits on lookups per account.
We do not use your data for advertising, sell it, or use it for credit decisions or any purpose unrelated to the extension.
7. Service providers
We use these providers to run the extension. They process data only on our behalf, under their data processing terms:
- Google: sign-in
- Vercel: hosting of our server
- Upstash: storage of lookup counts, cached results and price history
- scrape.do: retrieving public Google Shopping results (receives product names or barcodes only)
- HubSpot: our customer database
Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is covered by safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive a copy of it. Email support@retailgrid.io and we will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Finland, this is the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).
9. Exported files
“Download CSV” saves your price list as a file on your computer. Retailgrid does not receive this file unless you choose to upload it to your Retailgrid account. If you do, our main privacy policy applies to that data.
10. Permissions
- activeTab: lets the extension read the tab you are on, only after you click its icon.
- scripting: runs a read-only script in that tab to read the product data. The script changes nothing on the page.
- storage: saves your price list in your browser.
- identity: signs you in with your Google account when you choose to use competitor prices.
The extension does not request access to all websites and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising code. It does not load code from the internet.
11. Links to our website
The extension contains links to retailgrid.io. If you open them, our website's privacy policy and cookies policy apply.
12. Children
The extension is a business tool and is not intended for people under 16.
13. Changes to this policy
If a future version of the extension handles data differently, we will update this page and the date above before releasing it.
